Random access memory allows you to select any specific cell of memory without having to work through a series of sequential memory cells.  The most common type of computer memory is dynamic random access memory (DRAM), consisting of both transistors (lets the memory chip read or change the capacitor) and capacitors (holds the information). The dynamic RAM requires refreshing by the CPU or memory controller constantly, so that the capacitor is not emptied of what it is storing.

RAM temporarily holds the data, operating system and application programs, losing the data when the computer is turned off. Like short-term memory, it stores the data that you are currently working with, having a limit on the amount of information that it can work with at one time before slowing down your computer’s ability to process information.  RAM holds just a fraction of the data that the hard drive is able to hold, but allows your computer to process data much more quickly.

While RAM holds memory only as long as the computer has power, it transfers the data to the hard drive upon proper shut down. The user can improve RAM storage and performance by adding sticks of RAM to motherboard, as long as the motherboard is compatible with the type of RAM and has not exceeded its RAM limit. The user should consider the type of RAM that is being used before purchasing a specific motherboard, ensuring that the motherboard has the capability to upgrade and expand to these new types of RAM.

I would select the first TV Tuner card because of the selection of inputs at the low price. I do not have the capability to play video at an HDTV resolution, so a TV Tuner that has this capability is not important. I also am swayed by a deal, and so testing it for $19.99 would be worth the price. If I found that I required more capabilities, I might try upgrading to something more expensive. This was the only card that I did not know about, so I thought it would be interesting to research. I would purchase this card more out of curiosity than necessity or desire, so cheaper would be my priority.
